Stone Soup Food Drive

Thank you to all the families that donated personal care items this week! We are about 1/4 of the way to our goal of 2,000 items for the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry. We will be collecting non-perishable and canned food goods next week (e.g., crackers, tea, coffee, canned peaches/pears/fruit cocktail, canned sloppy joes, canned chili, oatmeal in containers or bags, tomato sauce or paste).

Don't forget to download and print the Month of Giving and Gratitude activity. Each day, students can choose to do one act of giving or gratitude, and on Thanksgiving can share with their families what these acts meant to them.

You can also make your own version of Stone Soup at home using the recipe provided. Students may post pictures or a video of their Stone Soup creation on Flipgrid using the following link https://flipgrid.com/d2a844ba

Stone Soup Food Drive

The Arbor View PTC is hosting a month-long Stone Soup Food Drive this year! Our goal is to donate 2,000 items to the Glen Ellyn Food Pantry by the end of November. Please see the Stone Soup Food Drive flyer for more information on the different items that will be collected each week.

The Stone Soup story teaches the value of giving and sharing with others. Arbor View students can display these values by participating in the Month of Giving and Gratitude activity. Each day, students can choose to do one act of giving or gratitude, and on Thanksgiving can share with their families what these acts meant to them.

In addition to donating items and participating in the Month of Giving and Gratitude, students are encouraged to make their own version of Stone Soup at home using the recipe provided. Students may post pictures or a video of their Stone Soup creation on Flipgrid using the following link

Fundraising with SCRIP!

The Arbor View PTC is excited to introduce fundraising with SCRIP. Scrip fundraising is a no-selling program that allows Arbor View families to raise money for our school. Scrip is just another way to pay for your everyday purchases using gift cards instead of cash, checks, or credit cards.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You purchase gift cards from www.ShopwithScrip.com (or download the Raise Right app and make purchases through the app.) The gift cards are purchased by you at face value. Once you purchase a gift card, using the code below, Arbor View School gets an amount equal to a percentage of your gift card, and you retain the full value of the gift card you just purchased! It’s really that simple!

EXAMPLES: Do you anticipate spending $100 at the Gap? If you buy a $100 gift card through Scrip, Arbor View PTC gets 14% of that amount, or $14, and you get a $100 Gap gift card! Or do you plan on buying a $50 Chipotle gift card as a birthday present for your nephew? Do it through Scrip: AVPTC gets 10%, or $5, and you get a $50 gift card so your nephew can eat burritos! Percentages vary by store/restaurant/retailer.

WHAT STORES ARE AVAILABLE?

Gift cards are available from more than 750 of the country’s biggest retailers, including grocery and department stores, gas stations, restaurants, hotels, home improvement and more. Just by using gift cards to pay for your normal weekly purchases you can easily raise $500 or more per year. It’s time to start shopping with a purpose, and put your dollars to work for the kids and programs at Arbor View School.

HOW DO I ORDER GIFT CARDS?

To order, go to www.ShopwithScrip.com or download the Raise Right app. The unique purchase code for Arbor View is: A2978F8F6478L

Planning on Remote Learning in 21-22?

Action required by May 25 for students planning to learn remotely next year - 2021-2022.

Community Consolidated School District 89 families can plan for a return to a traditional schedule with five full days of in-person learning during the 2021-22 school year. Remote learning will only be available next school year to students who have certification from their physician that they require a medical exemption.

You can view a short video of CCSD 89 Superintendent Dr. Emily Tammaru discussing the plans for the 2021-22 school year here:

https://youtu.be/xO5_gVcCQ_c

You can view the slides from the May 17 Board of Education presentation here:

The first day of the 2021-22 school year for students is August 18. View the 2021-22 calendar:

Remote learning in 2021-22 school year

Next year, remote learning will only be available to students who require a medical exemption because they or a household member are at increased risk of severe illness due to COVID-19.

Families must request the CCSD 89 medical exemption form from their school principal or nurse by Tuesday, May 25. The form requires a physician to certify the student’s medical need. The completed form must be returned to the district office (22W600 Butterfield Road, Glen Ellyn) by Friday, June 25.

Remote students will not be part of the same classes as in-person students. The district will be partnering with education organizations that specialize in online learning. The district will be holding a Zoom question-and-answer session with the families of students who need remote learning prior to the June 25 deadline.

Community Involvement and Volunteer Brochure

One key factor in the success of our school is the fantastic amount of parent and family involvement throughout the year. PTC has prepared and published a Community Involvement and Volunteer Opportunities Brochure. In this brochure, you will find a brief overview of many of the ways you can get involved, from small one-time tasks to long-term committee positions which aligns with the information on the Volunteer page of this website.  Most of the activities and positions listed require multiple volunteers to ensure success, and we never turn down a helping hand!

Our school community loves family participation, so please consider the opportunities listed here and let us know if you are willing to offer some of your time or skills! Please see the Volunteer tab for more information.
